The imagery in my paintings is derived from what is surprising and dazzling in the natural world. The focus is on form articulated by clean color and at times remarkable patterning. While the imagery in the paintings is derived from observation, I am interested in capturing specific qualities in each painting that reflect an internal state. I calibrate color, composition and light to explore the resulting tenor of each painting.
With nature as an example, these paintings are both outward and inward looking. Elements from the natural world become metaphors for the inner world of thought and emotion. It is my goal to create paintings that show the brilliance of nature while revealing the human experience.
